Three Phase American Step Down Transformer

(1 customer review)

Note: If you require custom made three phase transformers please see here.

3 Phase American Step Down Transformer – Three Phase Step Down Auto-transformers (also referred to as voltage converters) are designed to convert an input of 415VAC (Australian power grid voltage) through the transformer to an output of either 200VAC and 220VAC (transformer has two outputs taps to allow for 200VAC and 220VAC).

With two output taps from the transformer, you can choose which voltage output you require depending on what voltage your appliance requires (if it is an American or Japanese machine). These Three Phase Step Down Transformers are rated in either 10kVA and 30kVA, and are an ideal solution if you want to run an Overseas device rated at 200VAC or 220VAC in Australia. They also can be used for multiple purposes including Industrial and Commercial machines/appliances.

For Step Down 380V Transformer for a European/Chinese or Korean Industrial Machine Conversions, see here. For Three Phase 415/415VAC Isolation transformers, please click here.

Please Note: Transformers must be hard wired into the electrical supply by a Licenced Electrician or Electrical Contractor. These items are mainly for Industrial & Factory environments with high current input supply, not for domestic use (unless specified by Electrician or Tortech Engineers).

NOTE: A transformer will only step the voltage up or down depending on its ratio. It will not change the frequency from 50Hz (cycles) to 60Hz. American motors are designed to operate at 60Hz and will be reduced in capacity/speed by around 20% when running on 50Hz supply. However, Tortech transformers have a reduced voltage of 208vac instead of 220vac to compensate the difference in frequency.

About Us:

Why Us:

To Help determine which Transformer you will need, please check these questions first:

Select from our range below, based on how many watts your device uses

Choose the unit with matching power rating or the next one up.

Most appliances have a rating label on them.

E.g: If your device uses 5150 VA you will need a 6000 VA transformer. (6.0kVA)

The Transformer cannot change Frequency. In most cases this will not be a problem. This may occur with fans and motors.

If so you can calculate the watts (kVA) required:

Calculated as Watts (kVA)= Amps x Volts x 1.732 (eg 4 Amps x 200V x 1.732 = 1385 watts (or 1.4kVA))        For some Loads (non resistive) you will also need to take into account Power Factor (PF), or allow at least 25% Headroom. [ VA * PF = Watts ]

Most loads will be Inductive (motors and compressors) and have low pf around 0.8 or less)

Not sure which Unit you will need?

Then  please contact us with your answers to above questions & we will advise the you the unit required.
